UK travel update: Changes to traffic light system and travel rules for fully vaccinated
The UK’s traffic light system has on 4 October 2021 been replaced with a single, smaller red list of countries which require a quarantine hotel stay, and the ‘rest of the world’ (previously green and amber list countries).
There are also changes to the testing requirements when returning from a non-red-list country, if you are fully vaccinated with a recognised vaccination:
• If you are arriving from non-red list countries and are fully vaccinated you will no longer need to self-isolate on arrival or take pre-departure tests before travelling to the UK provided over 14 days have passed since your second jab before arrival
• You will only need to book and take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 as you are now exempt from taking a test on day 8 after arrival. 14 days must have passed after your final jab and you will need proof of your vaccination status and must fill in a Passenger Locator Form before leaving for the UK
• Vaccinations which exempt you from self-isolating:
o Oxford/AstraZeneca
o Pfizer BioNTech
o Moderna
o Janssen
Additionally, later this month arrivals from non-red list countries will also be able to replace PCR tests on Day 2 after arrival with lateral flow tests, which are less costly.
