UK travel update: Red list updated and Amber list removed in overhaul of travel rules in England

The international travel traffic light system is being simplified in England with just a single red list, as part of an overhaul of the rules from 4 October. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed that 8 countries will be taken off the red list from Wednesday, these being:

  • Turkey

  • The Maldives

  • Bangladesh

  • Pakistan

  • Egypt

  • Oman

  • Kenya

  • Sri Lanka

This means that from 4am Monday 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England will change from the red, amber, green traffic light system to a single red list of countries and simplified travel measures for arrivals from the rest of the world. The rules for travel from countries and territories not on the red list will depend on your vaccination status.

The full red list and information on vaccination, testing and quarantine requirements can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england
